What tarot is

Tarot is a deck of 78 richly illustrated cards. When you draw a few and reflect on them in the context of your question, the images become something to think with — a way to put into words what you already sensed but hadn’t named.

Not prophecy

At Mai we don’t treat tarot as a tool for predicting a fixed future. The future isn’t in the cards; it’s in the choices you’ll make. A good reading doesn’t say “this will certainly happen.” It opens things up: “here’s what’s stirring inside you, and here are directions you might take.”

A mirror, not a verdict

Think of tarot as a mirror. It adds nothing to you; it reflects what’s already there, sometimes from an angle you hadn’t considered. That moment of “oh — so that’s how I’ve been seeing this” is the real value of a reading.

Why it still helps

  • It slows you down. Pausing, breathing, and sitting with a question is already an act of self-care.
  • It opens new angles. An unexpected symbol can make you think about your situation differently.
  • It keeps you in charge. The final answer is always yours.
Tarot doesn’t live your life for you. It invites you to look a little more closely, then walk on with your own feet.

If you’re looking for emotional support, tarot can be a gentle companion — but it’s not a substitute for a therapist, doctor, or professional advice.
